What is Aeroplan?

Aeroplan is a travel loyalty program in Canada that allows you to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on travel and non-travel related products or services.

How Much Are Aeroplan Points Worth?

The value of your points will vary depending on what you choose to redeem your points for. In general, flights and travel-related costs will garner you a much higher value than non-travel related purchases. Moreover, if you book your flights far in advance and are flexible with your dates, you can be sure to get the most out of your Aeroplan points.

Can Aeroplan Points Expire?

If you do not use your points within 18 consecutive months they will expire. However, you can buy back your expired points for 1 cent per Mile through Aeroplan’s website.

Can I Book a Flight With Any Airline Using Aeroplan Points?

You can use your Aeroplan points to book any flight on Air Canada, United Airlines, Air China or any of the other 26 airlines on the Star Alliance Network.

Which Aeroplan Card Should I Choose?

There are three main factors you will want to consider when choosing an Aeroplan Credit Card.

  • Annual Fee – How much your card costs per year is important in understanding whether or not the benefits outweigh the costs. For example: if your annual fee is 300 dollars and 15,000 Aeroplan points are equal to a $300 ticket, how much money would you have to spend before you reached 15,000 points? Assuming you can again between 1 and 2 points per dollar spent, you’d have to spend between $7,500 and $15,000 a year before your benefits covered your costs.
  • How do you earn points? – Like the annual fee, you also need to consider which purchases gain you points. For example, if you typically use your credit card for groceries, you should look for a credit card that provides the most points in that category.
  • Perks – Many cards offer travel insurance, shopping insurance, sign-up bonuses, and more. Be sure to evaluate the difference to obtain the card with the highest value for you.
